Good Evening Gloucester Dukes,
This is Dr. Mygas calling. Today, Tuesday, September 17, several of our students entering from the bus loop side of the building participated in the new security screening process. I want to commend our students for their patience and cooperation as we began this new process. We will continue with implementation tomorrow morning, with the eventual goal of screening all students at both entrances each day.
Based on our experience today, here are a few things for students to keep in mind as they go through the scanners:
Be alert and follow all directions of staff members.
Wait until the person in front of you has gone all the way through the scanner before starting to walk through.
After going through the scanner and retrieving your Chromebook and other items, continue walking into the school. Do not wait for other students behind you.
Hold the straps of your backpack as you walk through the scanners. If you are able to do so, wearing your backpack backwards on the front your body may make it easier to take items out of it.
Items that will set off the scanners include Chromebooks, umbrellas, large metal water bottles or cups, large headphones, and eyeglass cases. These items need to be removed from backpacks and placed in the trays as students walk through the scanners.
Cell phones, keys, small earbud cases, and Chromebook chargers will generally not set off the scanners and should be kept in students’ backpacks.
Again, I greatly appreciate how well our students did today with the new screening process, and I am grateful for everyone’s support of this important safety measure. Thank you, and have a great evening.
