February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, and the Department of Secondary Instruction has been working hard to strengthen partnerships between Gloucester High School, Page Middle School, and Peasley Middle School creating valuable opportunities for middle school students to explore CTE programs at the high school. One of the highlights this month was the HOSA Advisory Program at Peasley Middle School, where we celebrated the accomplishments of 20 students who completed the program. Thank you to Ms. Nester and her health science seniors for facilitating this impactful experience. Additionally, CTE Awareness Day at Gloucester High School gave middle school students from Page and Peasley a firsthand look at the various CTE programs offered at the high school, helping them make informed decisions about their future career pathways. The collaboration between the Secondary administrative teams and CTE Departments has been outstanding. This month has been a fantastic opportunity to showcase the importance of Career and Technical Education, connect students with hands-on learning experiences, and strengthen collaboration between our middle and high schools. The future is bright for our Future Dukes! #CTEMonth #CareerReady #CTEPrograms #FutureDukes

The National Weather Center is predicting snow for Gloucester County tomorrow, Tuesday, February 11, 2025. Snow is expected to move into the area between 10:30 AM and 12:00 PM. With student and staff safety as our priority, GCPS has decided to implement a remote learning day out of an abundance of caution. Here’s what to expect for tomorrow: • Students PreK – 5: Learning packets were sent home and should be completed at your own pace. Elementary students should bring their completed work to their teacher the first day they return to school. • Students Grades 6 – 12: Assignments will be available on Canvas. Students should work at their own pace and complete assignments anytime throughout the day. For any assignment-related questions or support, please contact your teacher via email, Canvas, or TEAMS. Teachers and instructional staff will work remotely and remain available by email during the workday. Central Office and 12-month school-based staff will also work remotely. Maintenance, transportation, and facilities staff will report as directed by their supervisors. We understand that remote learning does not fully replace face-to-face instruction; however, this decision helps reduce the need for make-up days later in the school year. Thank you for your understanding as we prioritize the safety of our GCPS community.

Gloucester County Public Schools Cancellation Announcement Due to ongoing hazardous conditions on back roads, all Gloucester County Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, January 23, 2025. While primary and secondary roads are safe for travel, many back and neighborhood roads remain snow-covered and untreated. Our road assessment teams determined this afternoon that melting during the day, followed by overnight freezing, has created hazardous conditions. More than half of the miles traveled by our school buses are on these back and neighborhood roads, which are unsafe for travel. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing overnight and into tomorrow morning, with minimal improvement expected before noon. Out of an abundance of caution and to allow additional time for road treatments, we have made the decision to cancel school for students. We recognize that parents are eager for students to return to school, and we share in that excitement. To prepare for the start of the second semester, all teachers and staff are asked to report to work at 10:00 am. Additionally, due to extreme cold, the potential for refreezing and continued hazardous conditions, all afterschool activities are canceled to ensure the safety of students and staff. The Gloucester County School Board Budget Work Session with Public Input, originally scheduled for tomorrow, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 6:00 pm in the T.C. Walker Auditorium Thank you for your patience as we navigate this winter weather together! Sincerely, The Gloucester County School District

We are pleased to share the highlights from the School Board’s January 14 organizational meeting. This meeting marked the start of a new year with meaningful celebrations, updates, and plans for the future of Gloucester County Public Schools. We were honored to have Lily Bland, a third grader from Botetourt Elementary, lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. We celebrated the achievements of our phenomenal Seniors of the Month from Gloucester High School: Bailey Wilson, Addison Boughan, and Brandon Wood Jr. On behalf of the Student Council Association, these seniors presented gifts to the Board. They exemplify service to the community, character, grit, and academic achievement. They have shown exceptional leadership, fostering a positive and inclusive student culture, and are sure to achieve great success in life. Ms. Katy Bland was recognized as this month’s community volunteer. She has devoted more than two hundred hours planning and carrying out events such as the Fall Festival, family nights, and other student and parent events. Thank you for serving in roles such as PTA president and treasurer. We are grateful for your positive presence and teaming up with Botetourt administration and staff to support our Bulldogs each and every day. Congratulations to Ms. Arsenovic, appointed as Chair, and Ms. Parker, appointed as Vice Chair of the Board.
