Gloucester County School Board Announces Interim At-Large Member

Gloucester County, Virginia – On March 18, 2025, the Gloucester County School Board appointed Fred Allen Brewer, Jr. as the Interim At-Large Board Member, effective immediately through December 31, 2025.

Mr. Brewer is a dedicated community volunteer and an active member of the Gloucester Educational Foundation. With 12 years of experience serving on the Hampton City School Board before relocating to Gloucester in 2019, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the role. He has two grandchildren—one currently enrolled in Gloucester County Public Schools (GCPS) and another set to begin kindergarten in the fall.

Mr. Brewer expressed his commitment to ensuring a high-quality education for students while maintaining fiscal responsibility, stating: “My goal is to assure the best possible educational experience for our children while being good stewards of taxpayers’ money.”

He also reflected on the importance of public education, adding: “It’s been said that one of life’s greatest gifts is the opportunity to work hard at work worth doing. And, most certainly, the work of educating our children is work worth doing.”

Mr. Brewer pledges to dedicate himself fully to this role and extends his gratitude to the Gloucester County School Board for the opportunity to serve.

The Board extends its appreciation to the other applicants—Ms. Carolyn Molly, Ms. Cathy Balderson, Ms. S. Nicole McPherson, and Mr. Matthew Nash—for their willingness to be considered for the position.
