Dear GCPS students and families,
As we approach the colder months, staying vigilant against respiratory viruses such as RSV, flu, pneumonia, and COVID-19 is essential. These illnesses can spread quickly in the school setting. Protecting our students' and staff's health and well-being remains a top priority. Here are a few key reminders to help minimize the spread of illness:
Stay home for a persistent cough, sore throat, or runny nose accompanied by other symptoms such as fever (100.4 or greater), fatigue, or difficulty breathing
Frequent handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after coughing, sneezing, or being in public spaces
Cough and Sneeze Etiquette: Cover mouth and nose with a tissue or elbow when coughing or sneezing
Vaccination: If eligible, consider vaccinating against RSV, flu, pneumonia, and COVID-19. These vaccines provide added protection against severe illness
Masking: For students and staff at higher risk or in crowded spaces, wearing a mask can provide an additional layer of protection
Avoid sharing personal items such as water bottles, utensils, or lip balm
Individuals may return to work or school after being free of diarrhea, vomiting, or fever (without the use of medication) for at least 24 hoursÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
If your child develops symptoms or tests positive for a respiratory illness, please notify the school nurse promptly. This information is essential to ensuring our mitigation efforts are successful. As a division, we will continue to assess trends, enhance the school's cleaning regime, and implement additional measures as needed.
We appreciate your partnership in keeping our school community healthy. Together, we can ensure a safe and productive school year for all.
For additional resources or questions, feel free to contact your school nurse.
Thank you for your support.
