GCSB Meeting Highlights

04/26/2024

Dear Teachers, Parents, and Staff

We hope this message finds you well. Following last night’s School Board meeting, we wanted to summarize the key points discussed and decisions made.

During the meeting, public comments highlighted the importance of additional training for students and staff regarding the Standard Response Protocol and crisis management. To address this concern, we have included a video link in this letter that explains our crisis response protocol, provided by the I Love You Guys Foundation.

Ms. Katina Keener, Associate Director of Student Services, presented valuable information on the Middle Peninsula Academic Center (iMPACT), an alternative educational program for secondary students who are suspended or expelled from regular day school. The presentation shared during the meeting provides further details about this program.

Dr. Amy Stamm, Director of Elementary Instruction, and Dr. Ford, Director of Secondary Instruction, updated the Gloucester County Public Schools Literacy Plan, emphasizing the importance of developing skilled readers from Kindergarten through 8th grade. In the coming months, the public will receive more updates on this plan.

The School Board approved several recommendations, including aligning the testing year curriculum with the delivery of science instruction in 5th grade and adopting a German textbook and supplementary materials for the newly approved German language course.

Furthermore, the Memorandum of Understanding between Gloucester County Public Schools and Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office was approved to ensure safety and operational efficiency. A copy is available on the school division's boarddocs.

We are pleased to inform you that the School Board unanimously agreed to participate in training alongside the superintendent on board norms and protocols to ensure the efficient operation of the division.

Ms. Stephanie Hautz, Interim Chief of Human Resources, provided updates on hiring and vacancies for the upcoming school year and action steps to ensure the recruitment of top talent.

Finally, the school board meeting is scheduled for May 14th at 6:00 pm at the T.C. Walker Educational Center.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Anthony Vladu
Division Superintendent
