At Tuesday night's Gloucester County School Board meeting, students took center stage as their remarkable achievements were celebrated and recognized.
Savanah Gross, a student from Achilles Elementary, led the Pledge of Allegiance, exemplifying leadership and patriotism at a young age.
March's Senior of the Month at Gloucester High School was announced as Casey Bowen, showcasing academic excellence and outstanding character. In February, the honor was bestowed upon Avery Watkins, highlighting the ongoing commitment to excellence among GHS seniors.
Dianne Carter, a history teacher at GHS, shared reflections from the 1st Annual Oratorical Competition, which saw inspiring performances from talented students. Freshman Alyssa Wilson clinched first place, followed by senior Bryce Monroe in second place and senior Ailin Harpole in third. Peasley Middle School participants, 8th graders Paula Ochoa-Zepeda and Emmalynn Hemphill, also demonstrated their oratory skills, guided by teacher sponsor Mrs. Jessica Johns from the social studies department.
Additionally, the meeting celebrated the artistic achievements of Riley Newhouse, a 1st grader from Botetourt Elementary School, and Addison Wymer, an 8th grader from Page Middle School, who were recognized as winners in the VSBA Eastern Region Art Contest.
Berlin Boykin, a student from Page Middle School, was honored as the state winner of the American Legion Middle School Essay Contest, showcasing exceptional writing skills and critical thinking.
Finally, the Volunteer of the Month award was presented to Cara Fuscia from Achilles Elementary School, recognizing her dedication and invaluable contributions to the school community.
These outstanding students, educators, and volunteers serve as inspiring examples of the talent, dedication, and excellence within the Gloucester County School District.
