Good afternoon, Gloucester High School students, families, and staff:
This is Chuck Wagner, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, calling with an important announcement regarding two upcoming changes to the high school schedule on Friday, March 3, and Monday, March 6, 2023.
As you are aware, Gloucester High School is ready to begin its long-awaited renovation. One of the first steps in this process is to relocate several classrooms from A-Hall into the new modular units, as well as relocate the administrative offices and counseling offices to temporary locations. We just received notification that the modular units can now be occupied, and we would like to begin this transition as soon as possible. To help expedite these relocations, Gloucester High School will have an early dismissal on Friday, March 3, at 12:30 PM. In addition, Gloucester High School will have a Remote Learning Day on Monday, March 6.
Without the majority of students in the school, crews will be able to relocate classrooms and offices with more efficiency. GHS staff will report to the school as usual.
On March 6, students who attend any off-campus programs, such as New Horizons Regional Education Center, or Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School, will continue to attend their program as usual.
For students who may need internet access on Monday, March 6, Gloucester High School will send home a request form with all students tomorrow, February 23, so that families can indicate whether special transportation may be needed to and from school for internet access. These special request forms must be returned no later than 3:00 PM on Monday, February 27.
Dr. Mygas, the school principal, will be providing additional details to all GHS families and staff later this week and again next week, with more specific information about the March 6 daily schedule, student attendance and participation requirements, meal availability, internet accessibility, and transportation, if required.
To repeat: Friday, March 3 will be an early dismissal day for Gloucester High School at 12:30 PM. Monday, March 6 will be a Remote Learning Day for Gloucester High School. These schedule changes apply only to Gloucester High School and will not impact any other school schedules.
This information will be posted on the Gloucester High School website, with updates added regularly to keep students and families informed. Look for the “Remote Learning Day” graphic on the GHS website for more information.
We appreciate your support for this schedule adjustment as the renovations begin. Thank you.
